For over a century, Historic North Meridian Street from 40th Street to the Canal has served as Indianapolis' "signature" residential street.

Its location forms the center of the Indianapolis North Side and now serves as an anchor to "Mid-Town," a collection of some of the city's most popular neighborhoods that have unified for development purposes.

North Meridian itself serves as the boundary for two Mid-Town neighborhood associations.  The west side of North Meridian is overseen by the Butler-Tarkington Neighborhood Association while residents on the east side work with the Meridian-Kessler Neighborhood Association.  The Meridian Street Foundation overlaps this as a "bridge" and provides social events and historic assistance to those on and adjacent to the street.

The street's 178 homes were primarily built between 1910 and 1940.  Most were constructed in various "Revival" styles, most notably English Tudor and Colonial modes.  Mediterranean and Arts & Crafts homes are also found here, as well as "prestige ranches" that were constructed after World War II.

Home prices on the street generally range from $400,000 to near $2 million, significantly higher than the $160,000 approximate average price of homes in the metropolitan area.
